What can you do with alpaca fiber?  The question should be what can't you do with it?  Anything you can do with sheep's wool can be done with alpaca.  Alpaca's plus is the lack of lanolin - thus removing the need of scouring.  It's minus is that it has no memory - meaning if an alpaca garment is stretched it doesn't return to its original shape very easily.  It's for this lack that alpaca is combined with wool, usually a 65% blend of wool to 35% alpaca.

However, with all that said everything on this page can and is made from 100% alpaca, all from my own herd.

The lady on the right is modeling the alapca scarf her daughter, on the left, created for her from my herd's fiber.  The green stripes are from my suri girl, Madras.  Suri is a tough fiber to felt so she compensated for that by using huacaya "dots" where the suri crossed.  She also achieved a lovely effect.

Juggle Balls ($6 each or 3 for $15)  -

This is white alpaca with colored yarn and fiber highlights felted around rocks.  The case is hard felted white alpaca.

Door stop (average price $10)

Alpaca felted around large rocks.  The felt can be color coordinated to match any decor.  The felt protects floors and doors.

Pet toys ($5 with bells, $2 without)

These are simply felted balls.  You can make them by hand similarly to felted soap.  The key is to make sure the hot, soapy water completely permeates the fiber ball.  This is important whether you make them individually or using nylons.

Snakes -

The process is the same except instead of a ball the fiber is tightly rolled into a cylinder.  This is then worked similarly to making ropes with Play Dough combined with hot, soapy water.
